Getting Pet Hair/Fur Off Your Mambe Blanket
January 21, 2012
...for your Pets care, FAQ, Pets 1 Comment
Every once in a while, you just need to get all the pet hair off your Mambe blanket. You could wash and dry it. You could use a lint roller on it. But you know what really works the best? Don’t laugh . . . wet/damp hands. Really. And believe us, Margaret has tried just about every product and technique there is out there in the 10+ years she’s been cleaning pet hair/fur off Mambe blankets. (The rest of us here at Mambe have experimented too, but no one has been doing it as long as Margaret.) Just wet your hands and lightly brush them across your blanket. The hair comes right off onto your hands. If your blanket is really covered with hair, start in the center with your blanket on a flat surface – table height will save your back – and work your way out to the edges. When your hands get “full”, just dust them off over a trashcan. A spray bottle with water is an easy way to keep your hands damp as you clean a big blanket with lots of fur. You should end up with a very clean – or at least a very de-haired – blanket.
Caring For Your Mambe Blanket

We continue to get questions about washing and drying Mambe blankets. So here’s the short course: we wash our blankets in the washing machine in cold/cool water with ordinary laundry detergent, and tumble them dry on low heat (or hang them to dry). Never use bleach. Also, Polartec fleece is really tough stuff but it will “shrink” if it gets too warm. (Hold a hair dryer on a plastic grocery bag to see how synthetic fibers react to too much heat.) Karen prefers to partially dry her blankets in the dryer, and then hangs them to finish drying completely. Fleece dries really quickly, so it only takes a little longer than in the dryer only but helps keep the fleece looking like new.
How do I choose the right size Mambe?

...for the Great Outdoors, ...for your Pets, ...on your Boat FAQ, size Leave a comment
Size is so relative but we’ll do our best to help. For example, does a small Extreme Blanket fit one person for use as a stadium blanket? Is a large big enough for two people? Well, it depends on the person(s) and it depends on your definition of “fit” and “big enough”.
Here’s what we can tell you for sure about Mambe blanket sizes:
XL ~7×10 feet (King size mattress top ~6.5×6.5 feet)
L ~5×7 feet (Queen size/Double mattress top ~5×6.5/~4.5×6 feet)
S ~4×5 feet (Twin size mattress top ~3.5×6 feet)
XS ~2×2 feet
And here are some general guidelines: A small (~4×5 foot) blanket usually wraps a child from head to toe but only covers the lap *or* torso of an adult. A child can stretch out on a small blanket and one adult can sit comfortably on a small. A large (~5×7) blanket wraps one adult pretty much head to toe, two adults can stretch out on one large blanket to watch fireworks, and a large “seats” 3 or 4 adults on a nice day for a picnic. Can a large get around two adults as a stadium blanket? Probably, depending on how tall they are, how close they wish to sit, and how much they choose to cover . . . And for groups larger than 4 adults, an extra large may be best way to go. It’s a little bulkier to carry, but worth the extra room it affords.

How Do I Choose Which Mambe Blanket to Buy?

...for the Great Outdoors, ...for your Pets, ...on your Boat, Uncategorized FAQ 2 Comments
All Mambe blankets will keep you dry – because it wouldn’t be a Mambe if it wasn’t waterproof – but different blankets definitely provide different levels of softness and warmth. The “coolest” Mambe – and we’re talking temperatures here, not attitude – is the Classic Outdoor Blanket. If you want to stay dry but don’t need to add warmth, pick one of our print-fleece blankets. Next warmest and by far the most versatile is the Essential Outdoor Blanket. If you are only going to buy one Mambe to use all year long, in all types of weather, for all types of activities, the Essential is it. Made with 200-weight Polartec fleece and breathable nylon backing, it comes in many solid colors. The Luxury Outdoor Blanket is warmer yet (made with 300-weight Polartec fleece) but still on breathable nylon backing. Luxury blankets are made with textured fleece that looks and feels incredibly “cushy”. Warmest of all is the Extreme blanket. Made with 300-weight Polartec fleece *and* a heat-reflective lining, the Extreme was designed to retain the user’s radiant body heat when outside temperatures are at their lowest.
New Microfleece Pet Blanket

Thanks to our fabulous customers, Mambe is growing by leaps and bounds and we’ve been busy working on a new product; as well as adding new sizes, colors and prints to our existing blanket lines (more on these later).
Many of you asked for a “quieter”, less “slippery” waterproof blanket and we think we’ve done it: a microfleece-backed blanket. It’s still 100% waterproof (it wouldn’t be a Mambe if it wasn’t waterproof) but fleece on both sides. You pick the size and color you’d like on one side and we back it with soft black microfleece. It makes no noise on your bed or couch, it’s warmer than our nylon-backed blankets, and it doesn’t slip and slide the way rip-stop nylon can.
(Ok, the new blankets are awesome. But there are some things to really like about the nylon backing too: the blanket doesn’t weigh quite so much which makes it easier to handle when it gets wet, it dries faster, and it’s not quite so warm to sleep in/under. Also, a quick shake or a damp rag on the nylon side and crumbs/hair/lint/grass fall or wipe right off.)
You can find the new blankets on our Pet Blanket page, along with a new size (28×28 inches) for our smallest customers. Choose your size, color and, now, backing.
